Sail Away! Charters has been in operation since 1992. 'Joie de Vie' sails the Chesapeake Bay from Deltaville, VA. Deltaville is located at the mouth of the Rappahannock river on the Lower Bay. Regular cruising grounds include Solomon's and St. Michael's to the north, Crisfield and Onancock to the east, Hampton and Cape Charles to the south. On one day charters, we'll sail within 15 miles of Deltaville - to Irvington, Grog Island, Gwynn's Island, Windmill Point, or possibly Urbanna. Multi-day charters will sail anywhere on the Bay, time permitting. 'Joie de Vie' sails April though November, usually finding good winds year round, even in the summer when a fresh afternoon SE breeze will tend to fill in on the Lower Bay.
'Joie de Vie' is a 33 foot Cape Dory, sloop rigged, fine sailing boat proven to be capable of coastal and extended cruising. Her modified full keel design allows her to handle well in all sea conditions. She has a finely appointed teak interior. The galley is fully equipped and there is an icebox available.
***Full Day Charters
Day sailing excursions may include up to six passengers. Plan to bring your own picnic lunch or we could sail to a nearby restaurant if everyone is interested. The day will begin at 0900 with several good hours of sailing, then a lunch stop where we can anchor and possibly barbecue or get ashore for a brief time. The afternoon sail will lead us back to Deltaville by about 1700. Rates are $360 for private groups or $120 per person. A 50% deposit at the time of booking is required (100% deposit for per person bookings).
***Multi-Day Charters
Multi-day charters are typically limited to your private group of one to four passengers and begin at a group rate of $765/group for a two day-one night charter. Continental breakfast, towels and linens are included. Overnight destinations could include Tangier Is., Onancock, Reedville, Cape Charles, Hampton, and loads of quiet creeks along Virginia's Northern Neck. Add additional days to the cruise, and we may be visiting Solomon's, Crisfield, St. Michael's, Norfolk, or nearly any area on the Chesapeake Bay. 'Joie de Vie' has a fully equipped galley. The evening meal may be prepared on board or our evening anchorage may have a restaurant you prefer. A 50% deposit at the time of booking is required.
***Half-day - 4 hr
Half-day charters for you group of up to six passengers may be arranged at a rate of $255/group. You may chose your 4 hrs between 0800 and 1600. The per person rate is $85. A 50% deposit at the time of booking is required (100% deposit for per person bookings).
***Sunset - 3 hr
Sunset charters for you group of up to six passengers may be arranged at a rate of $225/group. The per person rate is $75. A 50% deposit at the time of booking is required (100% deposit for per person bookings).
You may book a charter in one of the following three ways:
1) Private Group - Your group of up to six passengers (four for overnight) may be booked.
2) Modified Private Group - You may reduce your group rate if you have a group of less than six passengers and you don't mind having other passengers onboard. The rate for your group is the group rate less 50% of the per person rate for each non-group passenger added.
3) Single Passengers - I'll add you to a standby list and try to find you a sailing date either with Modified Private Group or other single passengers. A minimum of two passengers at the per passenger rate is required to set a sailing date. A full payment of $120 per person is required as deposit (allow time for mailing).

Deposits: 50% deposit is required with booking to secure the date.
100% deposit for per person bookings
Cancellations: Your deposit is non-refundable unless the entire booked charter is canceled prior to departure by the Captain, or you cancel and another party fully re-books the date at equal or higher value. No refunds after the charter has commenced. Postponements to a later date, due to weather or other circumstances, will be considered on a case by case basis and may be subject to an additional fee. Delays, in departure or return, due to weather or other circumstances could occur and are to be considered as a normal part of the sailing experience. |
